ARB ABS Hardtop

At its origin, the pick up was designed as a small-truck for the commercial or agricultural domain. A Spartan equipment of the vehicle, along with a platform to transport goods was sufficient. In the course of time the pick up developed step by step into a leisure vehicle with upgraded equipment. The same quality is expected from the accessories. A lot of pick ups were equipped with hard tops to protect the cargo from the atmospheric conditions and other influences. Basically, hardtops are available in three different materials.

  • steel panel – Hard tops are extruded in forms like other car body panels. Advantage: the styling can easily be adjusted to the vehicle.Disadvantage: very bulky for transport, high weight, sensitive against damage.
  • GFK - (glass fibre reinforce plastic = GRP). The mostly used material for hard tops, because it can be produced in small amounts through the advantageous mould construction.Disadvantage: temperature sensitive, high weight, not recyclable.
  • ABS - Is a synthetic thermoplastic. The disadvantage is very high tooling costs, which require a high production number in order to amortise these charges. This material has a solid surface, good UV-stability and a very low weight.

The hardtops we offer are made of ABS. As we receive them un-mounted, we are very flexible. This means that the customer can decide if he wants sliding windows or top-hung window, if he wants to have the hardtop painted in the same colour of the vehicle or if he desires a solid roof rack mounted on the hardtop. Don’t forget that ABS is an environmentally-friendly material that can be entirely recycled.
